RE: Reframing gemini

While I agree with the sentiment in this entry, I think the ship has sailed. There's just way too much momentum now that Gemini and the ways it's being used has taken a life of its own. The 7 month hiatus from Solderpunk did not help I think, when the mailing list was chaos. Sure, Gemini has led to the creation of cool content and community interactions, but we are (ab)using the protocol. As I stated on IRC the other day, if something feels forced or like a hacky workaround, then it is likely the wrong tool for the job. I think though the community has taken notice of these issues and we're starting to clamp down on things.

RE: Twin Peaks and Meditation

Twin Peaks is an excellent show. Lynch does make references to meditation throughout the show and he intentionally keeps it open-ended because he does not want to force any one interpretation onto his viewers.

As for the "is it future or past" line, I'll take a more simple and straight forward approach. Time does not operate the same way in "The Lounge" as it does in the real world. It isn't clear if there's time travel in the show, but in Season 3 at least, there's allusions to alternate universes or realities, but perhaps I should not get into too much detail because of spoilers.

RE: normie hypothesis

For this, I'll just repeat what I said in my e-mail:

Your normie hypothesis is spot-on for what's going on in the Linux community. The "normies" prefer proprietary companies/software over FOSS alternatives, they complain more than they contribute back, etc. This is thanks to Linux getting a spotlight from tech youtubers and gaming companies. Some argue that Linux getting more popularity is a good thing. I'd argue that no Eternal September event is ever a good thing, especially if the crowd being brought in is toxic.
